At Complete Podiatry, we pride ourselves on providing the newest, most advanced treatment options to our clients. This is why we have invested in Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT).
ESWT is a modern, highly effective therapy where high-energy sound waves are introduced into the painful areas of the body.
There are numerous published scientific studies that have confirmed Shockwave Treatment as an effective treatment with positive outcomes.
The treatment is believed to increase blood flow and metabolic activity around the site of pain accelerating the healing process. It is also believed to have an effect on how pain is perceived within the brain.
ESWT is an excellent, non-invasive, treatment, with very few potential side effects, for conditions that normally are very difficult to treat.
A set of 3 treatments spaced 1 week apart is initially recommended with another 2-3 treatment potentially required depending on the condition being treated.
Side effects - if any - usually appear within 2 days of the treatment having been performed, they usually fade and disappear after 3-5 days.
The most common side effects may include reddening, swelling, pain, worsening conditions, hematoma and petechiae (red spots).
You should inform your Podiatrist of any side effects you feel may have resulted from your treatment.
Shockwave can be used by most people.
If you suffer from a bleeding abnormality, take blood thinning medication, are pregnant or have a joint replacement or bone screws/plates in the area to be treated, you will need to discuss your options with your Podiatrist.
The human body is a complex structure and like many things in medicine, we can provide no guarantees of the effectiveness of treatment.
We can only keep up-to-date with the latest quality scientific research and make this available to you to make your decision.
