Top 5 Holiday Footcare Tips
The holiday season is here....sun, sand, warm evenings, long days on your feet, and probably more activity than you realise until your legs start to ache.
Whether you're travelling, going to the beach, or just chasing kids around the backyard, your feet end up doing a lot of work.
A little foot care goes a long way during this busy time of year.
Here are my top 5 simple and practical holiday foot care tips to keep your feet feeling great all season.
1. Choose the Correct Footwear
Footwear choice depends on what your feet are actually doing each day.
Travelling: Wear supportive and roomy shoes at airports and on long road trips. Your feet swell when you sit for long periods, so supportive and roomy footwear can help keep you comfortable.
Beach days: Thongs are fine for short trips to the sand, but swap them out for supportive sandals or trainers if you’re walking longer distances.
Big days on the go: Look for well fitted footwear with cushioning and support. Your feet will thank you later.

2. Keep an Eye on Blisters and Hot Spots
Warm weather + sweat + incorrectly fitting shoes = the perfect storm for blisters.
A few simple steps to help:
- Get shoes fitted by a professional and don't just buy them online and hope they fit
- Use bamboo socks that help with moisture control
- Wear open shoes or shoes with a breathable upper
If a blister does form, keep the area clean and make an appointment with your Podiatrist.
3. Don’t Forget Daily Foot Hygiene

It sounds simple, but it’s easy to skip when you’re in holiday mode.
- Wash your feet thoroughly each day.
- Dry well between your toes to prevent infections.
- Moisturise your heels and soles to help prevent cracked heels.
A small bit of daily care goes a long way towards avoiding skin issues.
4. Protect Your Feet From the Sun
Feet get sunburned more often than people realise.
If you're spending time outdoors without socks or shoes, apply sunscreen to the tops of your feet, ankles and toes.
5. Watch Out for Ingrown Toenails
Wearing enclosed shoes + increased sweating + more activity = a recipe for irritated nails.
Keep nails trimmed straight across and avoid digging into the corners.
If you notice tenderness, don’t leave it too long; your Podiatrist can sort it out quickly, so it doesn’t derail your holiday.

Enjoy the Season With Happy, Healthy Feet
Your feet carry you through all the best parts of the holidays, adventures, celebrations, travel, and everything in between.
Taking some time to look after them means you can enjoy it all without pain slowing you down.
