The Best Treatment for Warts
As a Podiatrist, I see many people who are embarrassed and struggle with painful warts on their feet.
Often treatment would involve using Salicylic acid fortnightly on the wart while keeping the area dry for 3 days.
Clients are often frustrated with this treatment because the wart is often slow to respond, it is hard to keep your foot dry for 3 days and you have to come back fortnightly for more treatment.
However, there is a new option; SWIFT microwave therapy has an 83% resolution rate in treating warts and doesn't require the hassle of padding or keeping dry.
In this blog, I will answer what plantar warts are and how SWIFT can help successfully remove them.
What are Plantar Warts?
Plantar Warts (verrucae pedis) are non-cancerous skin growths on the soles of the feet caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV).
The HPV virus can enter your body through tiny cuts and breaks in your skin.
Plantar warts are often difficult to treat because warts are in a capsule hiding away from your own body's immune system.
Plantar warts can also be painful because they grow inwards into your body instead of warts on your fingers that grow outwards.
What is the Best Treatment for Plantar Warts?
SWIFT is the most advanced and best treatment for plantar warts and has an 83% resolution rate.
How does Swift work?
Swift is a microwave-based treatment.
Swift uses a focussed microwave signal emitted into the skin to 5mm depth to ensure only the wart is treated.
Then a process called heat shock occurs within wart cells.
This causes the wart to release certain proteins into your blood.
These proteins switch on your immune system to recognise the wart and begin to fight the virus.
Are there any Risks of having Swift?
There are no major risks of Swift treatment.
The microwaves are extremely targeted to the wart and do not spread wider than the probe head.
There is however a small risk of blistering after treatment, however, your Podiatrist will be able to help manage this if this does occur.
